Squeezing A Dollar Out of 15 Cents

Ever rob Peter to pay Paul? Try to make a money mountain out of an ant hill? Or here’s one I’ve heard lately, ever try squeezing a dollar out of 15 cents? If you’re 20 years or older, I’m sure you can relate!

As I sat in frustration after being stood up once again (me stood up? what a jerk right lol), I realized that we tend to use this same concept with people. We can drop change in the coin machine a million times, three nickels, fifteen pennies, a dime and a nickel, yet the total still shows fifteen cents! It’s like walking into the store and picking out your favorite candy bar knowing you can’t afford a solid pack of gum. We invest our time, dreams, even prayer on something we can’t control. For people we can’t control.

Now this post isn’t to bash the fifteen cents because hey, a spade is a spade right? Instead it’s to shine light on the penny pincher constantly walking into disappointment. You ever been so mad at the fact that you even attempted to make it work? At some point you have to own that choice you made. I’ve had those moments myself, “why don’t they call as much? Why don’t care as much? Why am I willing to do so much and they do so little”. The real question should be why do you continue to do such and such, for such and such? Hear me clearly, this is not to say allow your heart to harden on account of someone else’s shortcomings. Instead allocate your energy according. Because to be truthful, there’s someone else out there trying to squeeze that same dollar out of you. Be it your family because you gave it all to your job, or that guy who’s sends you good morning texts each day but can’t ever catch you when you’re “free”. We all have potential to be a dollar but for some we’re only fifteen cents, and that’s all they can bank on.

Let’s take the job example for instance; you work your butt off every day to make ends meet so the world stops until you feel fulfilled right? Wrong. All those long hours of over time may pay your bills but they’ll never replace that birthday party you missed, or winning shot in your child’s fourth quarter. Your climb up the corporate ladder could never heal those wounds of the wife that stayed up every night, or make up for that Sunday your grandmother expected you for dinner. These days we get so caught up in what WE want that we completely disregard what’s around us. And in return there’s something doing the exact same thing to us! That same job you slaved for just looked you over for employee for the year. That same guy you blew your friends off for just asked another girl for dinner. That same girl you helped get on her feet just covered another man’s tab. You see where I’m going with all this?

This gut check isn’t just for one party, but for us all. Take time to really understand where your value belongs. Remember, if money is all a rich man has then he’s probably the poorest man alive.

Three nickels…

Fifteen Pennies…

One nickel, one dime…

It isn’t fact nor fiction, just my opinion- Kandi
