How to Win An Instagrammy

“They don’t come to watch you sing, they come to watch girls shaking it on a bar!” -Kevin (Coyote Ugly 2000)

I first encountered Instagram my sophomore year in college. My fourteen year old brother showed me this app that I could use to edit/filter pictures. I started off taking pictures of nature, art, but as time would have it my most common post became the infamous selfie. Aren’t we all guilty? Lol. But that’s not the only thing new to Instagram, no longer is it just for iphoneography. It’s now the new hot social site and forum for people to be anything other than themselves.

This is the story of #HTWAI, how to win an Instagrammy…

It’s really pretty simple, because people are simple! To become the hot boy/girl on Instagram requires minimal work, just be who they want you to be. Girls with faces full of makeup, hair always done, cute quotes, and one word captions, that’s all it takes and people will WORSHIP you. For guys it’s not much different. All you need is a few bottles, new shoes, don’t show your money though (people grew out of that). No substance, no education, no job, it requires nothing but mystery! All they want is what they think they can’t have. The world praises instagram profiles like a toddler praises the new shiny thing his mom gave him. Think I’m wrong? Go look at some of the pages that get thousands of likes a week, click on a video and I bet not one word comes out of their gorgeous mouth. I die laughing every time because I can’t figure out if they’re slow, think that they are too good to talk, or they just have absolutely nothing to say! Yet people admire everything about it, like these people have to be amazing because they’ve yet to say otherwise.

Now don’t confuse this as hating, trust me I can appreciate a pretty face as much as the next but is that all it takes? Or a few pics out of town, at events that seem to be exclusive, a couple celebrity appearances here or there, that makes them important? That makes them worthy of your respect?

Our generation idolizes material things so much to the point that we miss out on the real treasures in life. We’re the kids people thought would’ve cured cancer by now and we don’t even own it! Where are our game changers? Where are our Martin Luther King Jrs, Neil Armstrongs and etc.? Don’t get me wrong I think our generation has some of the most talented individuals to ever walk this earth! Our creativity has no limit, I just don’t think we use it. But hey what do I know? Maybe I just follow the wrong people…

It’s not fact nor fiction, just my opinion! -Kandi
