Looking for Love In All the Wrong Places

"Love never fails, people fail on love" -unknown

Lately there's been a lot of conversation about shows like BET's Mary Jane and ABC's Scandal. Shows about two very successful women in their careers but tend to what is evident to the eye, lust after married men. Of course in the "morally" correct world it's easy to point the blame on these women and their bad choices but hey, this is America. Now I'm not one to condone any man or woman that breaks their vows taken before God and others but I am a realist and I know how common this has become. Since I've never been married and many of my colleagues are still very single I want to switch gears a bit and discuss what is known as the "sidechick".

Exactly who is this mysterious woman? She plays many roles in the eyes of society. On one hand she's the jezebel set out on pursuit to ruin homes. On the other she's every man's fantasy doing exactly what he wishes his girlfriend would do. But let's be realistic for some, she's exactly who they were or the woman they pray everyday to never become because they never really knew her. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but ladies (and some gentlemen) she could easily be anyone of us.

What if you met a man who made you feel like the world didn't exist if you weren't in it. He picked you up from work everyday just to be there when you got out the shower to rub your feet and listen to all the juicy gossip you held in from the office. This guy sends you random cards and flowers everyday and has your nose wide open. One day you realize that "hey I'm in love with this guy and I can't imagine my life without him". So you decide to be committed to him with or without commitment because this is who you think you could spend the rest of your life with. You guys are always with his friends and you may've beento a few family barbeques, his mom even invites you shopping. And then one day you find out he's not just your guy. Actually you find out that every time he wasn't with you he was with her. Not just with her but WITH HER. Professional engagements, trips out of the country, private dinners, all with her.

Now you've done it, you've received the title, a choice was made for you without any of your input because you were to blind to see that you had become the infamous sidechick. Now everyone hates you, heads held high so happy to say they'd never stoop so low. Yet all you were guilty of was falling in love with a man, who in reality even after this is over you believe loves you back.

*claps hands* Ok come back to! See how easily that could've been you?It isn't fact nor fiction, just my opinion! -Kandi
